Good morning!
It’s been a bit of a crazy two weeks here (I had COVID, and now my girlfriend does) and when I sat down to write a review for today, I realized that I simply did not want to. So no book rec this week!
As an alternative, might I suggest reading this essay I wrote about Cate Blanchett for Paging Dr. Lesbian?
My apologies if you follow me on Instagram and have already seen me shamelessly promote this piece of writing six times, but I promise it’s a fun read. If you’re not yet convinced, consider this photo:
And also, this one:
There’s more where those came from in the full essay! Plus, my theory on why Cate’s friendship with Sarah Paulson is essential to her status as the most crushed-on woman by lesbians and other queer women around the world.
Again, you can read it here.
In other news, my girlfriend and I recently watched Under the Tuscan Sun for the first time after reading this terrible review from the misleadingly named Christian review site “movieguide.org.” The review calls it “a thinly veiled, homosexual love story with a few heterosexual elements.” Sold!
The movie isn’t as gay as that review promises (Diane Lane does not, in fact, “pursue a statuesque, promiscuous blonde woman”), but it’s still worth watching, if only for the brief glimpses of Sandra Oh as a pregnant lesbian.
That unintentionally hilarious review also says that “Francis seems like she really wants to have a lesbian relationship rather than keep looking for love in men,” which I unfortunately don’t believe is true. What I do believe, though, is that Diane’s hair and outfits are perfect in every single scene.
Anyway, I enjoyed it.
My apologies again for the lack of review this week, but I’ll be back next Thursday with a good one.
In the meantime, feel free to browse the archives for old reviews, or reply to this email with what you’re looking for! I’m always happy to provide personalized recs.
